1 · VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
Where should you find the vehicle manufacturer's recommended tire pressure?

How often should you check your tires for wear and damage using the penny test?
- ✓ Once every month, or before a long road trip

During the penny tread test, seeing all of Lincoln's head means:

If all of Lincoln's head remains visible in the deepest groove, the tread is too shallow.

Where should your hands be on the steering wheel?
- ✓ At the 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock positions
- · At the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions
- · Both hands together at the top of the wheel

What effect can wet pavement have on your braking distance?
- ✓ It can double your braking distance
- · It has no effect on braking distance
- · It cuts braking distance in half
- · It only affects perception time
Braking distance depends on speed, brakes, tires and pavement condition - wet pavement can double the distance your car travels after you brake.

The manual recommends at least how much space between the driver's chest and steering wheel?

At least 10 inches allows appropriate room for the airbag to deploy.

Fatigue can affect a driver's vision and:
- ✓ Decrease reaction time
- · Improve judgment
- · Shorten stopping distance
- · Increase tire traction
Physical or mental tiredness can impair vision and slow the driver's response.
📖 VA Manual · Virginia Driver's Manual April 2026 - Driver fitness, p. 1912 · DROWSY DRIVING
Constant yawning, heavy eyelids and trouble remembering the last few miles driven are signs of:
- ✓ Drowsy driving
- · Aggressive driving
- · Normal, safe alertness
- · A vehicle alignment problem
These are the manual's warning signs of drowsy driving, a form of impaired driving. On long trips, stop at least every two hours for rest.

A driver must yield to pedestrians:
