🚫 Your test may not begin if…

The examiner inspects your vehicle and paperwork first. Any of these gets the vehicle rejected before you drive a foot:

  • !No valid safety inspection sticker
  • !Missing license plates, registration card, or decals
  • !Brakes, safety belts, horn, lights, turn signals, mirrors, or speedometer not working — the manual lists every one
  • !The test cannot be taken in an autocycle
  • !You provide the vehicle — no vehicle, no road skills test

⚠️ You may be disqualified during the test for…

  • Virginia publishes no instant-fail list in the manual — but examiners everywhere end tests for violations and dangerous actions
  • An unsafe or improperly equipped vehicle means the test never starts
  • Fail and you wait: the skills test runs once per business day, two days after a failure
  • Three DMV failures and an in-vehicle driver-ed course is required before the next attempt
