CSMA 19 grades lane discipline — 'stays in proper lane, checks traffic before changing lanes, changes lanes easily, does not change lanes excessively, does not straddle lanes' — and passing: 'controls vehicle in proper lane while passing on multi-lane street, judges distance, signals intention, accelerates properly.'

What the examiner is watching for

✓Centered lane position — straddling is named on the form
✓Traffic checked before every change: mirror, signal, head check
✓No excessive lane changing — pick a lane and drive it
✓Passes judged and signaled, with proper acceleration

Step by step

1Hold lane center with eyes high — the car follows your gaze.
2Change lanes one at a time: mirror, signal, shoulder check, move.
3Pass with intent: signal, accelerate properly, clear the vehicle, signal back.
4Then stay put — weaving for small gains is a graded fault.
