Common questions

How many questions are on the Georgia permit test?

40 multiple-choice questions, drawn at random. You must answer 30 correctly (75%) to pass. Two 20-question parts, matching DDS's real structure: Road Rules and Road Signs, each needing 15 of 20 (75%). Both parts always run — pass one and fail the other, and only the failed part must be retaken at the DDS. No official time limit is published; our 30-minute clock builds pacing.

What topics does the GA DDS permit exam cover?

The major areas identified in the official handbook: Rules of the Road; Road Signs & Signals; DUI, Points & Penalties; Permits & Teen Licensing.

How many languages is the GA permit exam offered in?

DDS lists 26 languages for the road-rules test (the list is DDS's own and can change) — but the manual is explicit that the road-signs test and the driving test are conducted in English only. Oral testing is available.

Does the Georgia license require more than the written test?

Yes — after the written permit exam you must pass a driving test with a DDS examiner. In Georgia, the graded skill areas include parallel parking, straight-line backing, stops at signs & signals, turning corners, yielding & following distance, vehicle control & posture.

Worth knowing in Georgia

  • Pass mark is 75% — and the examiner shows you the score sheet afterward, so you'll know exactly where points went.
  • Joshua's Law: 30 hours of classroom or eLearning plus 6 hours on-road with a certified school — or the Parent/Teen Guide route with 40 supervised hours including 6 at night.
  • The permit must be held one year and one day before the Class D road test at 16.
  • Class D curfew: no driving midnight to 5 a.m. — Georgia allows NO exceptions.
  • Class D passengers phase in: family-only for six months, then one passenger under 21, then three.
  • ADAS features are allowed on the test, but you must demonstrate operation without depending on them.
