The examiner scores every stop sign and traffic signal on the route: a complete stop, at the right place, with smooth braking. Georgia's manual puts the stop before the stop line or crosswalk — or before the intersection if there's neither — and the score sheet notices rolling stops immediately.
What the examiner is watching for
- ✓Wheels completely stopped — not slowed to a creep
- ✓Stopping at the stop line or crosswalk, not past it
- ✓Early, smooth braking rather than a late dive
- ✓Scanning the intersection before moving off
Step by step
- 1Spot the control early and begin braking sooner than feels necessary.
- 2Stop fully behind the line or crosswalk; creep forward for visibility only after.
- 3Look left, right, then left again before proceeding.
- 4Accelerate smoothly — the exit is graded as much as the entry.
Mistakes that cost points
- ✗The rolling stop — the single most common point-loser
- ✗Stopping with the nose over the crosswalk
