Georgia's score sheet grades how you sit and hold the car: both hands on the wheel (no elbow out the window), smooth speed control, and confident use of the controls. If your car has driver-assistance features, they're allowed — but you must demonstrate you can drive without depending on them, and hand signals are required knowledge if your signals aren't visible.
What the examiner is watching for
- ✓Both hands on the wheel, elbow off the window sill
- ✓Smooth accelerator and brake work — no lurches
- ✓Confident operation of signals, wipers, and lights on request
- ✓Driving that doesn't lean on ADAS to stay in the lane
Step by step
- 1Set seat and mirrors before rolling; hands at a strong two-hand position.
- 2Practice the hand signals — left out, right up, stop down — in case the examiner asks.
- 3Drive the route as if the assists were off: your lane keeping, your braking.
- 4Keep speed steady with small throttle changes rather than surges.
Mistakes that cost points
- ✗One-handed cruising or an elbow parked on the window
- ✗Letting lane-keep assist do the steering — the examiner can tell
- ✗Fumbling for wipers or lights when asked
- ✗Surging between the pedals instead of rolling on and off smoothly
