Full⚖️ Yielding & following distance
Georgia grades right-of-way judgment and spacing together: yield where the law requires — left yields to right at uncontrolled corners, left turns yield to oncoming traffic — and hold the manual's two-second following count behind other vehicles (three to four behind motorcycles). This is where the examiner reads your judgment rather than your car control.
What the examiner is watching for
- ✓Clean yields: left turns, uncontrolled intersections, pedestrians in crosswalks
- ✓A counted two-second gap — 'one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two'
- ✓Extra room behind motorcycles (three to four seconds) and trucks
- ✓No right-of-way 'gifts' that confuse other drivers
Step by step
- 1At uncontrolled corners: arrive together, yield to the driver on your right.
- 2Turning left: wait for oncoming traffic close enough to be a hazard — then commit.
- 3Pick a fixed object; if you reach it before finishing the two-count, drop back.
- 4In rain or behind two-wheelers, stretch the count further.
Mistakes that cost points
- ✗Waving others through when the right-of-way is theirs — courtesy reads as indecision
- ✗Closing to under two seconds in slow traffic
- ✗Turning left across traffic that's closer than it looks
- ✗Treating a green light as a right rather than a permission
